Superintendent Neil Leist invited anyone who lives in the 85-square-mile school district to stop by for a shower, free bottled water or ice from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fruit and snacks were also handed out, and two gas grills were fired up to provide a lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs, courtesy of Petermann Transportation, a bus company.
Connie Ponzo, 45, of Stonelick Township, said she was thankful for the bottled water and ice she picked up for herself and her disabled 70-year-old mother, Joan Brink. Their cistern pump is also out.
“We don’t have sewerage or nothing,” Ponzo said. “We’re having a heck of a time. … It gets warm in the house” without air conditioning.
“My mother is on food stamps, and she lost all her food” that was refrigerated, Ponzo said. “We’ve been trying to go out to eat, but it’s costing me a fortune.”(Girls in gym showers)
The district includes the village of Owensville and eight townships. Thousands of people in the district lack electricity, Leist said.
The high school, middle school and elementary school never lost power, but downed electrical lines on 10 roads make it too dangerous to bus in students, Leist said. Girls in gym showers, Bill heard chevrolet closing
