Toni Braxton: It was a bit nervewracking watching the 40-year-old singer after she revealed that she had recently been diagnosed with microvascular angina, which occurs when not enough oxygen is making it into the heart. But Braxton’s body rivals the female pros and she cha-cha’d like a natural, curing our stage fright in one session. This could finally be Alec Mazo’s chance to reclaim that season-one glory.
The Unbreak My Heart singer had to scrap a series of Las Vegas shows in May and June (08) after a medical emergency forced her to check into hospital with severe breathing problems.
She has since been diagnosed with coronary microvascular angina - a condition which starves parts of the body of oxygenated blood.
Braxton, 40, spent the rest of the summer trying to balance medication and control the condition, and now she insists her goal isn’t winning the TV dance contest but making it through rehearsals to get to episode one.
She tells America’s TV Guide magazine, “If I can make it through the five weeks of rehearsals without getting chest tightness, that’s all I want.”
