Supermodel Christie Brinkley Friday won her bid to keep her ugly divorce trial open to the world despite warnings her kids might be hurt by what comes out.
Brinkley’s horndog husband, architect Peter Cook, 45, and the kids’ guardian, Theresa Mari, wanted the trial closed to protect Jack, 12, and Sailor, 9, from what promises to be an avalanche of nasty publicity.
Suffolk County Judge Mark Cohen said he’s keeping the trial, set to begin July 2, public because “open courtrooms, in general and in divorce actions, may provide a basis for societal education.”
“The required high burden of compelling reasons to close the courtroom has not been met,” he added in a five page decision. Brinkley’s lawyer, Robert Cohen, said only an open trial would get at the “unfiltered truth.”
