Prada and Gianfranco Ferre Fall ‘08

Tuesday night’s collection was a knockout with models descending a curved runway like superwomen from the sky. Longer length, black pencil skirts sprouted ruffles like wings, with the odd men’s shirt collar peeking out from the neckline of a dress, hinting at a woman’s masculine side.

Come fall, everyone will be wearing lace because this was a collection resplendent in the stuff. In black, brown, navy or gold, lace became three-dimensional, with lace flower appliqués fused on top of full skirts that reached below the knee.

True to Prada’s kinky side, some pieces were see-through, because a woman’s sexuality is part of her power. Hair was slicked back into severe buns and secured with lacy leather hair nets (the new turban). Jewelry was modern — molded resin collars and cuffs. Purses were understated — a black calf, hand-held tote with a ruffle of leather on either side. Read the rest of this entry »

Marc Jacobs plagiarized Swedish owned scarf

WTF! Marc Jacobs did to a Swedish owned scarf? How Marc Managed to fly away with this Swedish designed scarf? When and How? Answer me all ye people! Sorry seems to be the hardest word as he just forgot to thank the Swedes. I’m sure dear Mark never thought about something criminal! He can manage to solve this issue.

Marc Jacobs Plagiarized ScarfA 55-year-old man from Arvika in western Sweden believes that he may own the rights to a scarf currently being marketed by top US fashion designer Marc Jacobs.

Göran Olofsson remembers well the brightly coloured scarf created by his father Gösta in the 1950s.

“I was very surprised when I saw the new scarf. It looks like a clear case of plagiarism,” he told The Local.

With its picturesque little church and wood huts, the scarf is very much a product of its origins. In fact, the two bears, the pasque flowers and the coat of arms depicted on the fabric are all symbols of Härjedalen, a county located in northern Sweden.” Read the rest from the Local Sweden. Milan Fashion Week: Prada

FASHION WEEKMiuccia Prada offered a new form of austere sexuality, with lace as the new tool of seduction, in her autumn/winter collection, shown at Milan Fashion Week earlier this evening. But there was a perverse side to her vision, too.

The silhouette almost obliterated the breasts; indeed the entire upper body was shielded, from waist to a tiny, high-set governess like collar which finished just under the chin.

Instead the clothes created erogenous zones on the hips – emphasized with a boned, “peplum” skirt, fastened with a buckle – and bare legs, which were glimpsed through the intricate floral patterns of heavy, Guipure lace.

The models, with their hair scraped back into leather snoods and faces almost devoid of makeup, resembled a parade of Mrs Danvers from ‘Rebecca’, grim, slim and flashing thigh and calf as they stalked a spiral staircase-catwalk inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The collection was based almost entirely on lace – 600 metres of it, to be exact, imported from Switzerland – and it came see-through or layered over flesh-tone, stretch-silk, body-stockings, leotards, bodices and big knickers.

FASHION WEEKAs Billy Bragg’s haunting “The Man in the Iron Mask” echoed around the vast tented theatre on Corso Venezia, Christopher Bailey’s hauntingly beautiful collection for Burberry Prorsum, inspired by L.S.Lowry, unfolded on the catwalk.

Although Bailey took Lowry as a reference point, nothing could have been further from the drab colours and industrial landscapes of 19th and 20th century northern England, most associated with the painter; although some might say the willowy models could qualify as “Matchstick Women”.

Bailey’s vision was de luxe. And in luxury fabrics, in shades of olive, emerald and moss, copper and smokey brown, purple, amethyst, kingfisher and sapphire, it ushered in a sense of new volume, focused almost around The Coat.
