Drumroll, please. New York Fashion Week is up and running.
Get ready for eight days of model-stalking, paparazzi flashing and passionate, obsessive fashion pundits.
Is there a presidential election campaign going on somewhere?
The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ribbon was cut Friday by the stars of NBC show “Lipstick Jungle,” which hits the air this week. And well before noon Friday, the Bryant Park runway was rocking with celebrities such as Heidi Klum, Cheryl Hines and Rita Moreno.
They were decked out in red dresses for “Heart Truth,” a national nonprofit organization focused on raising awareness of heart disease in women. The show opened with a speech by Laura Bush and coincided with national “Wear Red Day.”
On Thursday, “Earth Truth,” an ecological group, pulled out all the stops with a starry cast of designers including Versace, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors in a show called “Future Fashion.” Their mandate was to use Earth-friendly textiles.
Over the weekend, top designers such as Tracy Reese, Lela Rose and Diane von Furstenberg did their shows.
Carolina Herrera and Peter Som kick off today. For those still standing, it all ends Friday night with Marc Jacobs’ show. /kansascity.com
