To start the new year in style, take a few cues from the latest trends on the catwalk.
Jewelled necklines
A jewelled accent at the neck and/or sleeves on a top or dress is one of winter’s best trends for evening.
It’s a chic way to save time and money — no need to shop around for the perfect accessories with this look.
But remember, when buying anything embellished, make sure the silhouette you go for is something simple like a tunic or sheath dress in one solid colour.
Too much detail when dealing with anything sparkly is never a good thing.
Fair Isle knits
Once the exclusive domain of grandmothers and Scottish fishermen, cozy Fair Isle patterned knits are popping up beyond the racks of Northern Reflections and the pages of knitting guides.
Stella McCartney featured Fair Isle sweaters and scarves in her fall/winter collection and even notorious fashionista Victoria Beckham has been seen in some.
To avoid looking too granola, pair a bulky Fair Isle sweater with something slightly edgier (like skinny jeans) on the bottom.
Ribbed tights
Trade in those tired hose for a pair of ribbed tights. Whether basic black or deep shades of red like the ones seen at John Galliano, they’re an effortless way to add texture and flair to an outfit. /canada.com
