In Japan, high fashion is no longer limited to clothing but is becoming an experience in itself, with shoppers seeking a moment of pleasure found on a plate, in a spa or between silk sheets.
In one of the world’s most lucrative but saturated markets for luxury goods, foreign fashion houses are hoping for critical boosts by venturing into new territories such as hotels, restaurants, and health and beauty services.
Italian designers launched the trend in Milan, home to Gucci’s coffee shop, Dolce&Gabbana’s restaurant, Roberto Cavalli’s cafe, Bulgari’s hotel, Versace’s furniture and Armani’s florist.

Travelling to New Zealand Fashion Week last year, I couldn’t help but notice on my plane a strikingly well dressed woman, who stood out from the jeans-clad weekend travellers.
As a fashion commentator you find you can generally pick where people’s outfits have come from, as you are familiar with most of the clothing both in stores and for the season ahead.
However, this woman’s ensemble was not one I recognised, but it certainly drew the eye to its clever construction and sophisticated detail.
Always a fan of jodhpurs, I was particularly impressed by the trousers she was wearing – an interpretation that was flattering and elegant, which is tricky for jodhpurs.

HERE we are in the sumptuous Florentine salon of the Palazzo Corsini, decorated with frescoes and all manner of pilasters, balconies, and large golden chandeliers.
In that stylish Italian mix of old and new, this ancient room is set with rows of clear perspex Louis chairs and down the centre an extraordinary hi-tech catwalk with flashing digital read-outs.
Sweeping around the room is a light logo that somewhat incongruously spells “Australian Merino Wool”.

The five lasses from the UK showed up earlier today at the Roberto Cavalli Menswear Autumn 2008/Winter 2009 fashion show.
It was all a part of the Milan Fashion Week in Milan, Italy. And in a way, it was the Spice Girls’ way of repaying a huge favor.
It turns out Roberto was the creative hand behind the latest Spice Girls’ tour costumes. It looks like Cavalli has been officially Spiced up. /celebrity-gossip.net
