Kate Finnigan looks back over an astonishingly packed year of it-bags, fashion riots, fringes, beehives and more
Is fashion always so hysterical or has 2007 been a particularly giddy year? Back in the spring barely a week seemed to pass without a fashion riot making the news.
We’ve come to expect them at Topshop. But Primark? Sainsbury’s?
Perhaps all those heavily elasticated ’shapewear’ knickers we’ve been buying have reduced the flow of blood to our brains.
In 2007 celebrity style continued to dominate fashion.
Standing astride the year like a slightly dishevelled, crooked-toothed colossus was, of course, Kate Moss and her biggest commercial asset - herself.
But pop stars and actresses, too, have been more than willing to share their own ‘unique’ styles with us - in the form of lucrative high-street licensing deals, naturally. No more, please!
This was the year that it-bags got political - a shopper with an ethical message became the first eco must-have, and while handbags turned into a hot topic for the Labour party, Samantha Cameron, purveyor of £900 it-bags, kept schtoom.
Yep, 2007 was a mixed bag all round. But if you missed it all - or loved it so much you want to relive it - Stella presents its stand-out style moments… /telegraph.co.uk
