UK fashion industry receives £4.2m investment

Some £4.2 million of funding has been earmarked for the UK fashion industry to help further the international reach of London Fashion Week.

The London Development Agency (LDA) has announced that the money will be given to the British Fashion Council over the next three years to help build on the strong reputation of the twice-yearly event.

LDA chair Mary Reilly explained that the agency will work with the British Fashion Council to highlight the fact that London is home to some of the best new designers.

“The new funding will help raise London’s profile internationally and capitalise on its reputation as being a hotbed for new talent,” she said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, who elaborated on some of the attractions of the city for international fashion firms.

“London is at the cutting edge of international fashion and is the city where some of the world’s most famous designers developed their skills,” he said. /ukinvest.gov.uk
