A Detroit-based apparel and accessory company announces plans to introduce a new educational initiative to local high schools.
Developed by UniTee Design president R. Lee Gordon and “Abandoned In Detroit” founder, Stephen Boyle, The Model Student career program will teach high school students photography, video work, modeling, fashion design, hair and make-up artistry and other professions related to the fashion industry.
His program encourages students to improve and maintain academic levels, says Gordon.
“Today’s young adults are enamored by fashion so we think this is a great way to better engage them, but they can only be a Model Student if they’re keeping their eyes on the bigger prize which is a high school diploma.”
Gordon hopes to roll out the program in at least one Detroit high school by January, 2008, but admits he needs the support of local businesses and the broader community to make it successful on a city-wide level. /blacknews.com
