NEW DELHI: Make way ladies, the men have arrived. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is planning an exclusive fashion week dedicated to menswear.
It is the increased business in the menswear segment which has prompted the designwear industry to provide macho fashion freaks their very own platform, instead of following the usual practice of giving them limited exposure in the women’s shows.
“The whole idea behind starting the ‘India Men’s Fashion Week’ is to establish a menswear fashion industry in the country,: FDCI director general Rathi Vinay Jha told ET.
According to FDCI executive director Sumeet Nair, although a number of major apparel brands like Louis Philippe and John Players are focused on the menswear industry, there is inadequate action on the designwear side.
Upmarket apparel brands like Nautica, Lee, Killer, Calvin Klein etc are also bullish about the men’s market. /economictimes.indiatimes.com
