So ban those underage and skinny models. Fashion industry should stop promoting anorexia! So girls on the runway should stop their voluntary starvation and purging.
Under the new rules, girls under 16 cannot take to the catwalk, and models must produce a certificate proving that they have no eating disorders. FIFTEEN models were kicked out of a Rome fashion show today for being too thin, sparking new debate on anorexia in the fashion industry.
Panel members called for a rigorous scientific study into the prevalence of eating disorders among fashion models.
During the inquiry, they heard from many models who told of the fear of not being selected for work because they were not thin enough, according to Panel chairwoman Baroness Kingsmill.
In particular, they want more information on whether a minimum body mass index (BMI) requirement of 18.5 should be introduced for London Fashion Week models.

So ban those underage and skinny models. Fashion industry should stop promoting anorexia!
This approach has already been adopted by Madrid fashion week.
Madrid Fashion Week last year banned models with a BMI of less than 18 from taking part. You don’t need to jump!

stupid stupid stupid. mind your business everyone can be as thin as they want. we all make our own choices. take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming the media for every little thing.
to “courtney” how bout u starve for about a month and see how nice youll look OH wait u be DEAD u can be skinny AND healthy and being so skinny u fall through cracks in the floor is NOT sexy its disgusting and it is the medias fault and every prepy ass bitch out there who makes fun of ppl who are fat , so starve yourself and look in the mirror
you’re right my friend.. aprt that everyone can be as thin as they like.. yes models are meant to be extremley thin.. models are not there to show their bodies but to show the clothes on them..so they have to be like hangers…..
I cant believe that they are doing it voluntry..
I know it may be their decision but theres a point where you really should stop and people are doing this for fashion. Fashion is about expressing yourself, being unique. By portraying the ‘you have to be skinny to pull off this look’ doesnt make everyone unique.. it just makes everyone want to be the same.. too thin.
um scuse me i dont think you realise the pressure thats put on those models and thats usually what leads them to being sick. Look around you buddy, how many chubby models do you see around you? NONE. because everything`s changed now and apperently you have to be stick thin to be beautiful. so yes it is the media`s fault.
I don’t mind the limiting how low a model’s BMI can be. But I think that 18 is too high. Yes, under 18 is considered underweight, but have you looked at pictures of girls at different BMI’s? 17 looks thin, but not sickly in the slightest. Healthy thin. I think that 17 sounds like a much more reasonable number…
This is so dumb. I may not get to be a model! And why? Because Im a bit underweight! If all fashion shows decide you need to have a bmi of at least 18 Im screwed! I dont have any eating disorters im just naturally this way! This is dumb.
I think that this idea was rather clever and a new welcome change. It seems like the more reasonable decision to make. Actually, this may save some young girl’s life. Think, as long as you have proof that you’re not experiencing any unhealthy eating habits then you can still possibly be a model and all. They stated that it’s not only the weight, but they need to have proof. We don’t need any bad examples for our teenagers. I’m proud to see this.
I am in the same situation as JoJo.
Although I agree that the media forces anorexia down young throats, I do feel some sympathy for those who are naturally skinny like me.
well yea of course it is the medias fault for tryin to fit everybody into one catergory and that if you not skinny then you arent beautiful because i was a teenage girl and really wanted to be a model and i was hella good so i looked in fashion magazines to get ideas and guess wat i saw paper thin models and i tried everything to try to get super skinny but i knew that i would never be skinny. so how dare somebody say that its not the medias fault and i not blaming it on the people who naturaly skinny but the people who says oh well and to bad and it was your choice
Models have a right to work in a safe, and healthy environment which does not require them to starve! Yes, some people are naturally thin, and these people should be confirmed by dietitians that they are perfectly heathly and able to work, then allowed to do so. But for those who force themselves into such a state, simply for the ideology that to be sickly thin what is required to be beautiful, is absolutely apauling.! Fashion is an idustry of work. Those emplyed to the industry have right. Those rights should NOT be explioted, in the name of fashion..
